So the Hurt Locker got the Oscar for the best Director....making Kathryn Bigelow the first female to obtain it.
That's quite in line with your review Jimmy.
On hearing it, I was certainly amazed that the film was directed by a female. It kind of did not sound right to me given the subject... and I thought, what actually did not sound right to me was the fact that such a subject was filmed with so much quality and realism by a female... "females not being supposed to be experts in war frontlines situations you know..."
Stereotypes... They catch you up even when you think you're above them...
I am humbled by the lady..

I liked "Hurt Locker", but I didn't watch it all the way thru...made me anxious. Three Kings, great!

That's how I felt in the beginning Erin. I didn't know whether I wanted to feel sick with tension for 90 minutes, but I stuck it out. I'm glad I did.
Kathryn Bigelow defies all stereotypes. She's got a history of making mainstream 'macho' movies. K19 The Widowmaker was a submarine movie. And I believe she made a movie called Point Break, which is preposterously macho. I think she has probably battled with the men to compete in a mans world. She was probably expected to make women's pictures like 'the Sisterhood of the traveling Pants'. She's an action director, that's what she does best.

Yeh, my son and I were watching another movie last night, and the previews for Hurt were at the beginning, I said "I don't remember that part" and my son said "yeh, remember, you couldn't "take it" (doing the whole finger air quotes) and left the room"....hee hee....

i really want to see this film, so thanks for a good review jim, i read a book years ago about a british army bomb disposal guy, think it was called...
" braver men walk away " or something like that, so i am interested in this film to see how the tension is...
