It really is sad to say this, but the Golden voice is no more. I've never wanted him to fail, especially in this manner. Was I angry with him? yes, but this really such a sad way to see him end up.

Well his voice is his voice and I think it's still actually quite ok...

What makes me feel sorry for him is his need to appear in this kind of cheap UB40 parody ... in a way, also a parody of himself ... how ironic innit...

He must have rehearsed at least once for that, and he must have known before hand what it would sound like... but he went ahead...It sounds like the bottom of desperation for me...

Just listening to Ali's Running Free album on Spotify. First time I've heard any of his solo stuff.

It ain't great to be honest. Lacks the depth and variety the UBs bring to their albums. The choice of guest singers is interesting and shows the guy's got some good contacts, but the musical backup is a bit bland - especially the horns. Nowt wrong with session musicians, of course - what a dream job, playing music for a living and working with all sorts of people - but it just seems 'phoned-in' in places. Gotta Getaway's the standout but I can't imagine me buying it, not when there's so much great music out there.
