the longest spring on record.
I mentioned months ago that, when the 'arab spring' hit egypt at the beginning of the year, the USA deployed members of the armed forces to egyptian army bases to co-ordinate the suppression of the demonstrators who were calling for democratic change.
even though Obama was eventually wheeled out to give his soundbite in support of the need for democratic change, behind the scenes the US was doing everything it could to keep the egyptian army [who have been receiving BILLIONS every year from the US government over decades] from losing it's grip on power.
The hope was that, if mubarak was offered up for a show trial, things could carry on as they always have. With the army still in control of the country.
That's why the canisters of super-concentrated CS gas, that the egyptian army are using to break up demonstrations, have got 'made in the USA' stamped on them.

israel are calling the shots. They are using their powerful lobby in the states to prevent democratic rule in egypt. they know that the egyptian people support the palestinians. that could trigger new conflict in the region. the israeli's have got a huge [but very secret] stockpile of WMD's. Could be very nasty.

OK bernie, here you go.
the reason that the egyptian people are suspicious about their up-coming elections is because that election is being controlled by the army.
it's the army that has been running egypt for nearly SIXTY YEARS, with hefty financial support from the USA. with that money they have been creating an infrastructure of patronage throughout the country. They hold power with a network regional support, payed for by the billions they receive from western powers.
now what seems to be happening is that the election has been infiltrated by top army generals that have ditched their uniform and are standing as independent candidates. And because the army have made sure they have influence over regional politics, the end result result of the election will be questionable.
it means so much to israel and the USA that they are doing everything they can to suppress the will of the egyptian people.

Such sheer numbers in Egypt ... ...fingers crossed......it truly portrays the power of the people
think all u say is true...the army must have been like headless chickens the first few weeks after Mubarak left...amazing that they are creeping out their holes again....asserting their power...don't think they will get away with it again though...here is hoping

Tom. did you see the interview before where the guy from some 'financial' publication talked about 'regionalizing' the minimum wage.
that's a euphemism for CUT.
