Not for me Mags but my mrs loves stuff like Odyssey,Rose Royce and Chic.
reminds me of the days when you would be lining up to get in the disco, it would be winter, but you would just be wearing trousers and shirt because you couldn't afford a decent jacket.
a time for meeting girls, and finding out exactly how many rum and blacks you need before you throw-up.
I liked some of it back then, even the cheesy tunes! What did I know? I wasn't much older than an extra on Grange Hill.
Chic for me were the best of that era but there was so much throwaway music called 'disco'. I think they're several rungs higher than a lot of their contemporaries. I also think their music has 'aged' better, if that makes sense.
I was watching 'Shining Star', a very good Earth Wind & Fire documentary. Boogie Wonderland and Let's Groove are obviously their best known songs. It was interesting to hear them say they had reluctantly tapped into the disco trend with Wonderland and Let's Groove was done to cash in. From that point on, they said they began to implode. As great as those tracks are, EWF felt their best stuff was the music they'd done prior and I tend to agree.
Don't care what EWF think Imani, us Harrow Leisure Centre stalwarts wore out 5 of the DJs copies of Boogie Wonderland with our incessant requests for it to be played at the Friday night under 18s 'disco'
He refused to buy a 6th copy
So to answer your question Mags, yes between the ages of 13 - 15 I would strut my stuff in the leisure centre gym hall along with all my schoolmates and the rest of the cool kids in a 5 mile radius But we didn't groove to Saturday Night Fever our order of the day was EWF, Chic, Kool & the Gang and others of that ilk.
I've always thought that Anita Ward's Ring My Bell was a great record. Lovely driving tempo to it and GG's I Will Survive is another killer record, as gay as it is!

Boogie Wonderland is a brilliant tune, Michele. Having The Emotions in on vocals was a master stroke. I guess it always happens - the song that a band considers to be 'just ok' turns out to be their greatest hit! Happens every time.
I'm just glad 2 tone came along before I entered the World Disco Dancing competition (Tuesdays, 8-9pm, ITV, early 1979). It's just wrong!
Weird thing was, at the same time as I liked disco, I was also into punk. It was all chart music at the end of the day. When you're young and before you start identifying with certain musics, you either like certain tracks or you don't. The genre doesn't matter.

Oh god I remember those disco dancing comps on the tv, they were truly dire, I don't need to click to realise that. Luckily we didn't dance quite that badly

Yep, I liked many music genres around then too. The 'disco' was a chance to meet up with everyone and have a boogie round our handbags. We were too young for pubs, clubs or gigs so that was our only option apart from the youth club, which was hardly hip, hop or happening
