I think that as he keeps changing his story he's definitely guilty of something. Not that any of his excuses/reasons hold up to scrutiny. "I fell in the lifeboat".... oh come on! Whether archaic or not, the captain is not meant to disembark/desert and leave the crew and passengers to their own devices. Ultimate responsibility for all on board lies with him and him alone.

I guess you are right Starshine.....ultimate responsibility..maybe it is part of the job..but what use would it have been if he had stayed and died
.... it could be argued that it is morally wrong for anyone to abandon others and save themselves.... I just think I could not stand and accuse him of cowardice when I don't know how I would react in that situation? |

If you've been promoted to the level of Captain you agree to the responsibility. I'm sure everyone's gut instinct would be flight over fight but you don't get to take flight if you're the one with ultimate responsibility. If you can't accept that, don't take the promotion. It's a terrible thing to have happened but it doesn't excuse him falling into the lifeboat to safety and leaving the ship to sink with no thought for anyone else.

I think he did wrong..and should pay for all those people's lives which were lost as a result of his mistake/risk taking/lack of knowledge which he should have had
I hope I would have have helped those I could help before saving myself Just don't think I can say seriously ..it would have been more useful if he died? .....Just can't think it is right to stand trial for saving your own life ? |
