Even though the island albums were abit over dubbed, this is where the message of love, hope and peace had to reach a wider audience.
I love listening to the "early" versions of the Wailers output, but yes I must admit the later versions are nice and crisp and more accessible to casual reggae fans and therefore are more well known. It dosent matter much to me, Im hardcore, Im a man who has to spread the message that Bob gave us in anyway shape or form.

Bless Robert Nesta for that.
The great thing was he could internationalise the music without losing its basic roots. Stevie Wonder's 70s albums are also very slick but earthy as well. When you read biographies and interviews with Bob, it's clear that his influences went beyond Jamaican music, so it probably wasn't too much of a leap to incorporate the influences of other "pop" styles. Again, I think the Island albums brought it together.

The Scratch stuff is very important to know, Bob obviously absorbed a lot of Scratch's vibe and vice versa.

Greetings imani how are you friend?

Personaly I like both periods,I also think the marley himself was/is still the magic ofcourse the wailers where a brilliant band making it perfect, tho i haven't seen him mentioned don't underestimate Chris Blackwell when it came to the end product(bob trusted him blindly)a superb combination of people, bob also was very very serious when it came to music(recording.....touring etc)

Funny tho that exodus and kaya where recorded in the same session(kaya was mixed later in the us if im correct explains the different sound)

Greetings jahnus(short msg from phone)

I'm well thanks, Jahnus. I still have the recordings of Marley demos you sent me a few years back.

You're right about Chris Blackwell, a pivotal figure who understood what Bob was after.

I think over time, the older recordings have gained more respect. There are so many strong songs in there.

Yes totally agree, Scratch too was finding his production feet also, he brought that unique sound to the Wailers. But I think Bobs ultimate influence was a chap called Mortimo Planno, he was the guy who gave Bob the rasta teachings and the inspiration for his lyrics. He was also the man that encouraged Bob to sing as the front man in the Wailers.

I have all of Bobs Island albums and of course the early stuff. I think it was Chris Blackwell who added some rock and roll overdubs so that the albums were more accessible to the outside world. Without him Bob wouldnt have reached that audience and he wouldve been unable to put his message across.

I think I will dig out some Wailers stuff and have a listen this afternoon.
