Yeah, I've come across this theory before. I'm not convinced Dean. Back bench Tories have been behind it, and it conveniently forgets the fact that, back in the 30s, most of them (and British aristocracy, and royalty) were strong supporters of hitler when he was german chancellor.
The EU was conceived to bind Europe together economically and politically, so that there would be less chance of these countries going to war again.
