OK..my fault for not mentioning to the people I was conversing with to keep this quiet until its officially announced and then pressing the wrong button...BUT as most of you know I have been campaigning for The Rainbow to keep its music licence...Its an old pub with a VERY modern non discriminatory attitude and a great live band/DJ room. They have been putting on great bands like Joss Stone,Prodigy, La Roux etc for all of the 21st century...its been served with a noise abatement notice from a block of duplex apartments that are a 4 lane highway and a city block distance away from the venue only built in the last couple of years..its a bigger issue than simply noise, its about civil liberties and all concerned are doing their utmost to not be NOISY NEIGHBORS.The licencee is a very conscientious guy who has tried everything...Music and culture are being driven out of our city centers to make way for coffeee shops (how many more do we need?) Malls & luxury apartments that regular folks cant afford anyway....Birmingham city center has been turned into the biggest shopping mall in Europe.and on that note I must run and do stuff....Get tickets for the Villa v Chelsea game...

theres a very similar case in Newcastle..a very famous music pub (I have forgot the name ) has just lost its licence for the same reasons..its all about the 'repetitive beats' thing that was brought in to change the law about raves/illegal parties..Anyway Kevin Rawlinson journalist told me about it during our interview for The Independent a few weeks ago..the music as culture boys are going to include the Toon pub in its campaign im told...c'mon Skirge whats the name of the place, a couple of miles from the Baltic...? Famous old music pub..been there for decades..

Cheers Skirgy..Y'know something ? its like this..Britain has always been known for its innovative music scene and without small venues like The Cooperage, The Rainbow, Dingwalls, The Hope & Anchor etc etc where acts can learn the ropes, build a reputation in order to get the attention of the music business at large there will be no music business..or at least there will be no real music business..we will be left with talent shows where the winner does what they are told..manufactured music and artists are killing the real artistic music scene...I'm starting to believe that soon real artists won't express them selves through music any more, its getting too hard to even get a gig...Thats one of the reasons its important to protect our culture, preserve our civil liberties and fight to keep places open in the face of government dictat...

So great to hear you're all doing this BT. Good Wishes from across the pond that venues like these, the people's right to have them and the artist having a place to be heard, will continue and expand in the face of these most challenging times. The same thing happens over here too often.
Peace,
Bagga and Jolene

Yes, it is good to hear places where live gigs can be performed are kept going. We have a couple of pubs in Southampton that are well known for their live music. There used to be a lot more, as little as 10 years ago but slowly they are either closing or changing over to DJ music. No chance for new bands or older musicians who have made a living gigging around the pubs.
Is there a direct link where we can get tickets to the gig then?
love jx
