Default Brighton Rocks 2

Hi board just like to give you my review of Brighton gig last night.

Me and my wife stayed in the Umi hotel 100 yards from the centre at only £60 for the night. Got to the venue around 7pm and grabbed a couple of beers before standing just behind the group of loud flirty girls who Eddy Grant had a lot of fun with later.

By the time Eddy came on the standing area was still only half full of people but even when UB came on the whole venue was probably 80-85% full with empty seats down the side. This surprised me all the previous gigs indoors I 'd been to seem nearly full but after hearing about the M.E.N I shrugged it off.

Eddy grant was simply superb a very funny warm and energetic entertainer and his girl dancers really were good fun. I was knackered after his hour set dancing and singing at the top of my voice (and been dragged round the shops for 4 hours earlier round Brighton).

Then the boys came on and didn't disappoint. It struck me how much effort everyone on stage was putting in and there was definitely a better and more audience friendly vibe. Being so close up you could see Duncan singly really passionately, Norman with new found energy and the brass section up front and personal.

I really enjoyed hearing so many varied tracks, my favourites 'Train is coming' 'Impossible Love' and the clever way 'Rainbow Nation' Tyler and King ran into each other. The new tracks I absolutely loved and you can see the band loved playing them too.

I can honestly say this is in the top 3 best UB gigs I've been too (done 15) and was absolutely shattered at the end. I spent a fortune on Merchandise over £100 but they were worth every penny.

I got back to hotel at around 11.30pm but I had so much energy going thru me I just couldn't sleep and now I really am exhausted so will stop writing.

Just one thing, whenever I mention to people UB40 they generally say, it's not the same without Ali. But I say but you've never heard Dunc and the new sound. It's not massively different but it is definitely fresher. Long Live UB40. And thanks for a really great night.

Couldn't agree more with your review, Brighton definately rocked last night

I think you were standing behind me and my friend we were just in front of the 'loud girls' and I remember you saying to my friend you had been shopping all day!
