Bob Marley-The Untold Story- Chris Salewicz (Book Review)
just got back ffrom a 2 week holiday int the sun (Crete)
it was strange the way i got this book, as i was looking for east london gangster books, and starring at me was - Bob Marley-The Untold Story
you all know that i am not a great fan of bob, but my thoughts are starting to change...i will now be digging out the old Ska and Rock Steady
i would recommend this book to anyone
Obviously, being a biography, tells his life story.
His Life is unberlieveable..from rags to nearly richies
the way that he got into music and then the hard ship of recording, in later life the amount of pressure the goverment put on him to appear and concerts
it also tells how he was a strict christian and changed to Rastafari
the toe that was blamed for his death had been injured 4-5 times and he never got the wound sorted
he was also some sort of Prophet
he told people (at an early age) that he would live no longer that Christ
one of the main things for me was the people he grew up with andhis mentors..Lee`Scracth` Perry was involved in a loot of Bobs Stuff
i could reel of a lot of names but i will say just listen to The Key By UB40
Bob Marley-The Untold Story is a very spiritual book and through my love of reggae and mainly Ub40 (through labour of love and the support that they have given to all the FATHERS OF REGGAE) reggae has a whole new meaning
this book tells sooooo much
i have been thinking since the first time i have read it how i will write about it and i have not done it justice
i will add more to this when i have had some sleep

I've read Catch a Fire years ago.
I wouldn't say he was a prophet as such just very gifted, he never closed him mind or denied what he believed in.
Everything has a reason and a meaning.

the chapters Kingston Town and Trench Town Rock ..i have probably never read anything better
they give the feel that you are there ...
the way that the musician of that time are paid..$10 per song.. with the studio owning the rights... then the Studios started putting a Version (dub) on the B side so they dont have to pay the singer....it's also strange that the session muscians were paid more than the main act, and the would play as the same band under different names regarding the studio that was recording them eg the seesion musicians playing on "liquidator" under one name, were playing on "400 years" under a different name
i was also shocked how many times Bob recordered each song for each studio through out his carreer and the same goes for Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer and a a whole host of reggae stars
i highly recommend this book
i will even send my battered sun lotion drenched copy to someone if they require

he also had a gift of seeing what will be (according to the book)
maybe prophet is the wrong word?
spiritual is probably the right word
