there's a very good interview on it with everett moreton, ranking rodger and the keyboard player. quite detailed talking about the show and rodgers beat. he's also very honest about the bands split, most of what would have been the 4th album was written and demod, but he says ultimately the split was down to his and daves greed, but it backfired because fine young cannibals were far more successful than general public, thought it was very refreshing to hear someone admit they were wrong and niave

i was thought he was called PAPA SAX
2 reasons
1. his age (back in the 80's he was even then an oldie)
2. Smurfs (papa smurf)
dont ask why

Greetings Eamonn..yes, saxa was a lovely player, i didnt get to know him too well although The Beat pre saxa used to open for us at little gigs in Birmingham, and then when they took off we hardly saw each other as we were all touring everywhere and Saxa was getting on in years when he joined, then they split...we see Ranking Roger around occasionally, infact he used to jump up on stage with us regularly before joining The Beat..Its a small world...and we see Dave Wakeling in LA...he's opened a few shows for us as The English Beat...anyway, shame the guys never had longer together to find themselves, im sure they would have done even bigger things..the other two guys that formed the Fine Young Cannibals with Roland Gift opened a US tour for us way back before they also split..its not easy keeping a band together....
