Mrs. K and I spent New Years Eve at a movie called "We Bought a Zoo".

I know.

Anyway, heard my favorite song (I sound like a teenage girl) "I think it's going to rain today" in the film but not performed by the boys....infact, it may have been performed by the original writer??? The lyrics jumped out at me.
Soooo, how does that work in the music biz? UB40 made it a big song but does the writer have the authority to delegate it to whomever to use? You (the band) weren't in the credits. I think it said Randy Newman....was he the writer?

anyone can perform any song they want. but if you make money from it, a percentage must go to the songwriter[s]. A bit like a tax I suppose. I'm sure there are plenty of performers that try to be 'creative' when it comes to paying tax, but, technically, they are breaking the law.
