Default Legacies....

It struck me as I drove my slightly tipsy militant left wing friend through the Queens Park with Present Arms playing at full volume with her screaming "F Maggie Thatcher"....and "This song is just spot on".....

......that people leave legacies...

......how awful to be that sad iron lady woman with a legacy of being cursed by millions ....

Part of the discussion had been that they had been discussing UB40 at their Xmas meal...
One was a member of a local band who who said they had had a lot of support from UB40

The Socialist worker said she loved UB40 and apparently they played "Rat in the Kitchen" at political meetings ...

It started with my friend saying ...well that I was a well......a "loonie"

So here is the thing ..... how bloody great to have connected and still be connecting with all these different generations....

Roll on 2012 I say......

UB40 were spot on about Maggie as well as so many other things.

Don't think I'll ever forgive that evil woman.Vast swathes of the country are still suffering from the consequences of her policies.I saw it with my own eyes.Deliberately created unemployment to undermine working conditions and demonisation of people who were worth ten of the likes of her and her ilk (the miners) were the defining political memories of my late teenage years and UB40 provided the soundtrack with songs like Madam Medusa,One In Ten and As Always You Were Wrong Again. The boys were my favourite band long before the miners strike but when they recorded the latter song and did benefit gigs for the miners they went up even more in my estimation.UB40 songs did not constitute opinion for me,they chronicled what I was seeing happening around me.

Their legacy has long been secured but hopefully we have many years of their music and political pearls of wisdom to enjoy yet.

Yes Rhonda ... MM and one in ten were also played along the way ...I guess it is the Iron lady film coming out that is making her a bit topical again.....you had a post about Present Arms a few days ago highlighting again that the same words could be applied to today....

....my thoughts about legacies was really in relation to Maggie Maggot ... to be responsible for such destruction....and to have created such evil
Maggie's legacy legacy is division and polarisation Neph.People either love or hate her.You may have guessed I'm in the latter category.Seeing as even at the height of her popularity she got just over 40% of the vote I think I'm in the majority.
