Getting ready to watch the Ireland versus Wales rugby international this afternoon.Rugby is akin to a religion in Wales and has a ludicrously exaggerated effect on the national psyche.I'm already feeling nervous about the game.
The only thing that compares to the anticipation of a Wales international is the day of a UB40 gig. But,it's a different kind of excitement, the difference being that I know the UBs are not going to let me down and at the end of the gig I won't feel the urge to buy a dog so I can kick it (only joking). If Wales lose I regress into a sulking schoolboy for about an hour after the game.

With a UB40 gig I'm guaranteed to leave feeling uplifted.
So why do we sports fans put ourselves through it?
