| PRESS STATEMENT PARIS HILTON & UB40 |
7th June 2007 | |
|
Recent media coverage in the UK, Europe and America has incorrectly reported that reggae legends UB40 are to take legal action against American socialite and pop star PARIS HILTON for breach of copyright in relation to their hit record "Kingston Town." Media coverage in the last few days has confirmed that a £250,000 writ has been issued in the High Court in London, claiming breach of copyright against "Kingston Town" and that Ms Hilton’s record "Stars Are Blind" which was released last year, was "a blatant rip off" of the UB40 classic record A spokesman for the band today confirmed; "UB40 are in no way associated or party to any legal action being bought against Ms Hilton in relation to the song "Kingston Town." Any speculated legal action taking place against Ms Hilton would be entirely at the instigation of the original songwriter’s music publisher, Sparta Florida Music Group, who ultimately own the copyright to the song. UB40 wish to make this clear that they are not involved with this legal action." The spokesman went on to add "However, UB40 have always acknowledged, respected and supported the rights of songwriters and their vitally important contribution in the musical process." |
